We the undersigned petition the council to Why this matters to everyone, not just swimmers The current proposal is only marginally different from the existing six-lane pool. Yes, it would be a newer facility, but it risks falling short of the community’s real needs. This isn’t just about competitive swimming, it’s about providing quality leisure, lessons, health, family use, schools, clubs, and community wellbeing. We’ve heard the arguments: “Every inch costs extra,” “We’re already borrowing,” “It’s the best we can afford” but where there is genuine and demonstrable demand, a bold facility makes sense. Demand is real In England, 12.5 million people (around 26.9 % of the population) swam in the past year. (swimming.org) About 4.2 million people swim at least twice a month showing consistent, sustained use across all age groups. (swimming.org) One in three (around 14.2 million people) cannot swim a single length (25 m). Many of these are children missing out on essential life-saving skills because of limited access
